If we know what to do, then why does it seem so hard to even start or find a way to do it consistently enough to get the results we want?
I don't believe it's a lack of willpower or motivation. Neuroscientists have shown that the impact your thinking patterns have on your body is not untouchable. Dr Pert, an American neuroscientist, has proven through research that neurotransmitters are involved in countless functions such as modulating hormones, dealing with stress, appetite, mood and motivation.
These neurotransmitters are influenced by our memories, our thoughts and feelings and as you repeat certain thoughts, not only are actual connections created in your brain but these thought patterns are reaffirmed in the brain, such as "I'm fat", "I can't do this", which creates expectations of yourself and mould your actions. Your self-talk has a direct impact on your feelings and actions. Criticism, self-doubt and catastrophizing thoughts will stop you from achieving what you want.
Fix your brain to fix your body
The good news is, it's possible to rewire your brain and change the connections that will bring you different results. It doesn't matter what your goals are.
There are very specific strategies that you can follow to bring awareness to your thoughts, and most importantly, change them, so that they can be in sync with the results that you have been dreaming of.
1. know your why
Why do you want to lose weight? More energy? Feel happier? Want to engage in more activities? My Stop Binge Eating Program helps you explore the deep reasons and help you set goals and work towards them, ensuring that you're always motivated and on track.
2. listen to your brain
What is your brain telling you? Is this thought helpful? Is it helping me move forward or holding me back? We will work together to change unhelpful thought patterns and actions.
Come up with a phrase that empowers you. Instead of saying "I hope" or "I want to", say "I can" and "I am". Every day, repeat this in front of the mirror and soon you'll start believing this and achieve your goal. Examples of this can be "I'm able to lose 10kg".
Re-training your brain is a process and takes practice. We'll go a lot deeper in the program.
